One Year in Office: Here are achievements of the Suhum MP, Frank Asiedu Bekoe

Today marks exactly one year since Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe was sworn in as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Suhum in the 9th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana. It has been a year of steady work, learning, resilience, and visible impact both in Parliament and within the constituency.

●Work in Parliament

Within his first year, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe has earned the confidence of his colleagues, leading to his appointment to key parliamentary committees. He currently serves as Deputy Ranking Member, Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions Committee Member, Budget Committee Member, Human Rights Committee and Member of Climate Action and Persons with Disability (PWDs) Caucus. Through these committees, he has gained first-hand exposure to national issues and policy realities.

His work has taken him on oversight and fact-finding visits, including the Gambaga Witches Camp in the North East Region, as well as major state and private institutions such as GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Ghana Manganese Company Limited, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, and Gold Fields Limited in Tarkwa. These engagements, together with continuous committee sittings, have strengthened his legislative capacity and leadership experience.

●Contributions on the Floor of Parliament

Hon. Asiedu Bekoe made his presence felt early in Parliament. On his 14th sitting day, he rose to make his maiden statement on Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and Ghana’s disease surveillance system.
In March, he posed two critical questions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In July, he followed up with three urgent questions to the Minister for the Interior and also raised urgent concerns with the Minister for Roads and Highways regarding the poor state of roads in the Suhum Constituency ie Suhum – Adarkwa- Nankese road, Amanhyia–Akorabo–Kukua–Mangoase,Akorabo–Nankese,Ali–Tetekasom–Dorkrokyia,Suhum–Ateibu,Krobom–Kɔkɔteasua,Esaase–Aponoapono,Supresu–Oboutumpan, Footbridges on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
These interventions reflect his commitment to both national issues and local concerns.

●Support to the Suhum Constituency

Beyond Parliament, his first year has been marked by consistent engagement and support for the people of Suhum. Key interventions include:

• Touring youth playing fields to engage and encourage young people
• Providing support to over 500 widows
Relief support to victims of rainstorms
• Payment of hospital bills for needy constituents
• Organizing health education programmes
• Support for festivals and homecoming events
• Extension of electricity to selected communities ie Adarkwa Road,Kabo Hills,Papa Nkran,Islamic School,Oforikrom S.D.A, Opare-Ansah junction
• Sponsoring guidance and counselling programmes for 2024 BECE candidates
• Provision of mathematical sets to 2024 BECE candidates
•Constituting a committee to address sanitation challenges
• Forming a bipartisan committee to tackle opioid and substance abuse
• Awarding local scholarships to deserving constituents
• Provision of lockable doors for Obuotumpan MA Basic School
• Support to Muslim communities during Ramadan
• Construction of Bridge at Suhum Koforidua Station
• Engagement of Minister of Health on the Expansion and refurbishment of Emergency Ward at Suhum Government Hospital
• Free Medical Health Screening
• Free Registration and renewal of NHIS cards

●Resilience and Commitment

Throughout the year, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe remained visible and accessible to his constituents, even while facing a challenging legal battle. A petition filed by Kwadjo Asante sought to nullify the 2024 parliamentary election results. The court, however, upheld the clear mandate given to him by the people of Suhum, affirming their choice.

It has been a demanding year, but one defined by resilience, focus, and strong support from the constituents.
With this foundation, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe remains committed to delivering even more in the years ahead, working tirelessly to advance the interests of Suhum and contribute meaningfully to national development.
