Suhum Astroturf Project Set to Take Off as Contract Awarded

The long-awaited Suhum Astroturf Project is set to move into its construction phase after the Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, announced that the contract for the facility has officially been awarded.

According to the MP, preparations are currently underway for the official sod-cutting ceremony, which will pave the way for work to commence on the project. He disclosed that the facility is being financed through his Member of Parliament’s Common Fund allocation, with additional support from other funding sources to ensure its successful execution.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement in Suhum, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe explained that he is awaiting the return of the Municipal Chief Executive before announcing the date for the sod-cutting ceremony. He said the ceremony would be jointly organized with the Municipal Assembly to demonstrate unity and a shared commitment towards the development of the constituency.

“I have been informed that the Municipal Chief Executive is currently out of town. Once she returns, we will meet to agree on a suitable date for the sod-cutting ceremony because the contract has already been signed,” the MP stated.

Hon. Asiedu Bekoe emphasized that development can only be accelerated when elected leaders and local government authorities work together, stressing that he believes in collaboration rather than political confrontation.

“I am not one of those Members of Parliament who antagonize Municipal Chief Executives. We have a responsibility to work together in the interest of the people of Suhum. Development is achieved through cooperation,” he noted.

The proposed Astroturf forms part of the MP’s broader youth development agenda, which seeks to improve sporting infrastructure, nurture young talents, and create recreational opportunities for children and youth across the municipality.

Residents, particularly young people and sports enthusiasts, have welcomed news of the project, expressing optimism that the facility will help promote football development, community recreation, and youth empowerment while providing a modern venue for sporting activities within the constituency.

Once completed, the Suhum Astroturf is expected to become one of the municipality’s key sporting facilities, supporting grassroots football development and serving as a centre for community sporting and social events.
