Protozoa, Annoh-Dompreh deliver big wins for Dr. Bawumia in Eastern Region

The recently concluded New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries saw a remarkable performance from party stalwarts in the Eastern Region, as Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Frank Asiedu Bekoe, aka Protozoa, MP for Suhum, emerged as key architects of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decisive victories in their respective constituencies. The Minority Chief Whip, Annoh-Dompreh, widely recognized as a vocal Bawumia ambassador, successfully mobilized delegates in Nsawam-Adoagyiri, securing 707 votes for Bawumia—a commanding 74.74% of the total votes cast. The effort marked a significant turnaround from 2023, when Annoh-Dompreh’s heavy involvement in primaries nearly put his parliamentary seat at risk during the 2024 general elections. Analysts note that the strategic grassroots outreach, coupled with a last-minute campaign visit by Hajia Samira Bawumia, the flagbearer’s…

Minority blasts gov’t over lithium deal withdrawal

The Minority in Parliament has sharply criticised the government’s decision to withdraw the proposed lithium agreement from parliamentary consideration, describing the move as a clear admission of failure in the handling of one of the most strategic mineral resources. According to the Minority, the reversal reflects poor preparation, weak policy coherence, and an attempt by the government to retreat from scrutiny after initially forcefully defending the agreement. Addressing a media briefing in Accra on Monday, January 26, 2026, Minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said the withdrawal of the lithium deal did not arise from genuine stakeholder consultation, as the government now claims, but rather from mounting public and parliamentary pressure that exposed serious flaws in the agreement. He argued that a well-negotiated and nationally beneficial deal would not have collapsed so…

The judgment effectively restores and confirms the mandate of NPP’s Matthew Nyindam as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Kpandai. Kpandai MP Matthew Nyindam grateful to God, Supreme Court after landmark ruling restores his seat

The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has expressed profound gratitude to God, the Supreme Court, and the people of his constituency following a decisive ruling that reinstated him as MP. In a 4–1 majority decision, the apex court overturned a High Court judgment that had annulled his election on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang dissented from the majority ruling. The Supreme Court acted on an application filed by Mr Nyindam under its supervisory jurisdiction, arguing that the High Court had exceeded its authority in nullifying the parliamentary results. Agreeing with him, the justices held that the lower court lacked jurisdiction to overturn the election outcome, effectively restoring his mandate and bringing an end to months of legal uncertainty.
